Wessex Water and Plantwork Systems – A Winning Team!
Robert White
Plantwork Systems is delighted to announce another successful project completion with Wessex Water at Draycott, an area of outstanding natural beauty in south west England.
With a population of c.3000, Draycott is a neighbouring village of Cheddar on the southern edge of the Mendip Hills in the Wessex Water region.
The Operations Director at Plantwork Systems was contacted by Wessex Water in June 2022 to look at a failing cloth filter system which required backwashing. When the work was undertaken, the site became flooded and an urgent resolution was required.
PWS engineers were on the site within days and proposed the installation of three Filtration + systems to address the problem. These were installed and work completed by December 2022, ensuring suspended solids targets are now being met.
The Filtration+ system has been designed to remove suspended solids from treated effluent and can be used as a final polisher to keep small water recycling centres within their consent parameters. The Filtration+ system can achieve removal rates of total suspended solids (TSS) in excess of 70% without the requirement for power.
The Filtration+ unit has no moving parts and so is very reliable and provides some biological treatment and adsorption of solids onto media surfaces and plant roots. The flow path through the unit has been designed to produce optimal removal of solids in minimal space. All in all, this is a reliable eco-solution at an affordable cost.
